Hidden Seafood Gem in a Bangkok Mall: Kungthong Seafood Visit Review

 During my trip to Bangkok, Thailand, I had one particular craving: soft shell crab. After some research, I found a place called Kungthong Seafood, a well-known seafood restaurant that started with a famous main branch and has since expanded to several chain locations, including inside shopping malls.

I visited the branch located inside Siam Discovery, one of Bangkok's central shopping malls.
Be warned — the mall layout is a bit complex, so follow the signs carefully when navigating. I had a little trouble finding the food court area at first.

The restaurant is located within the food court, and the setting is very much in line with a typical mall food court — clean, simple, and casual. It’s a convenient spot for a quick but satisfying meal.

Though I can’t read Thai, the photo-based menu made ordering easy.

As with many Thai eateries, the menu was impressively diverse. It was hard to choose just a few!

Here’s what I ended up trying:

• Maphrang Juice
  A tropical Southeast Asian fruit juice. It tastes somewhere between orange and tangerine. Might not be for everyone, but worth a try.

  Fragrant and well-seasoned, with a nice balance of herbs and spices.                                  

  
  
  

• Thai Stir-fried Clams
  Rich, savory, and packed with umami — a great seafood option.                                          

  
  
  
  
  

• Soft Shell Crab
  The star of the meal.
  I visited specifically to try this dish, and it did not disappoint.
  Crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. It’s surprisingly hard to find soft shell crab in Bangkok, so having it available at a chain location was a big plus.

Since it’s located inside a modern mall, the prices are slightly higher than local street food or small eateries.
However, the food quality is reliable and consistent, as you’d expect from a well-run chain.

If you're in Bangkok and craving seafood — especially soft shell crab — Kungthong Seafood is a solid choice.
Its easy accessibility, wide menu selection, and guaranteed quality make it worth a visit. While it may not offer the rustic charm of a local street vendor, it delivers where it counts: in taste and convenience.

Thailand is known for great food, and honestly, it’s hard to go wrong — but Kungthong Seafood stands out for delivering both variety and reliability.
