Night Market Visit in Kanchanaburi, Thailand
During my trip to Kanchanaburi, Thailand, I had the opportunity to visit two of the city's major night markets.
The first is JJ Night Market, located right in front of Kanchanaburi Railway Station. This market is popular among locals.
The second is the Night Food Market, situated in the city center of Kanchanaburi.
I visited both locations and tried to capture the unique atmosphere of each through photos.
Due to the overwhelming number of stalls and signage written entirely in Thai, I wasn’t able to provide detailed descriptions of each place — I hope you understand.
Kanchanaburi Night Food Market
Address: 111 Thanon Sangchuto, Ban Tai, Mueang Kanchanaburi District, Kanchanaburi 71000, Thailand
This night market is filled with a wide variety of local street food. One of the noodle stalls I visited served what I can confidently say was one of the top three dishes I’ve had in Thailand. Even in Bangkok, I couldn’t find a place that matched the taste of these noodles.
At a roti stall, there was no visible line, so I assumed I could get my order quickly. However, it turned out that many locals had already placed their orders and returned later to pick them up. It took some time, but this only reaffirmed the stall’s popularity among locals.
As expected of a market catered mostly to residents, the prices were very affordable. Some food vendors even had outdoor seating, making it convenient for a quick bite.
Once the sun had fully set, the atmosphere of the market shifted completely. It felt quite different from when it had just started — lively and full of energy.

Unlike the Night Food Market, JJ Night Market focuses more on daily necessities and snacks than on full meals.
When I first visited during the day, I mistook the area for a parking lot because of the lines painted on the ground. Later, I realized those were designated spots for each street vendor.
I purchased a selection of fruits here — mangosteen, mango, dragon fruit, and guava — all for less than 200 THB. It was surprisingly inexpensive.
There were also more clothing stalls than I expected, and I even came across vendors selling cosmetics, nail services, and contact lenses. One stall inside the market operated as a full nail salon, which seemed quite popular with local women.
Although there were fewer food stalls compared to the city night market, there was still a good variety of snacks available.
Final Thoughts
Each market had its own unique charm, and both offered a distinctly local experience rather than a tourist-oriented one.
If you’re looking to get a taste of authentic local life in Kanchanaburi, I highly recommend visiting both the Night Food Market and JJ Night Market.
